Shimano technical compatibility

Shimano 6 to 9 speed

All Shimano 6, 7, 8 & 9 speed rear derailleurs (RDs) move 1.7mm sideways for each 1mm of cable movement - a 'shift ratio' of 1.7. Therefore all 6, 7, 8 & 9 speed RDs will work with any 6, 7, 8 or 9 speed shifter, whether STI or trigger.

LaVita keep good stock of a 32 tooth RD that is 1.7 and therefore compatible with all Shimano 6 to 9 speed road & MTB shifters.

LaVita supply Road shifters in 7, 8 & 9 speeds for compatibility with Shimano RDs.

Shimano 10 speed Road RD speed NOT Tiagra 4700 RD

Apart from the (Tiagra) 4700 RD, 10 speed Road also uses a shift ratio of 1.7 so 6-9 speed derailleurs are compatible.

LaVita keep good stock of a 32 tooth RD that has a shift ratio of 1.7 for compatibility with Shimano 10 speed road shifters (NOT Tiagra 4700 shifters).

Shimano 10 speed MTB RD

Shift ratio 1.2 and only compatible with Shimano MTB shifters (Dyna-Sys). LaVita do not offer any parts compatible with Shimano MTB 10 speed.

Shimano 10 speed Tiagra 4700 RD

Shift ratio of ~1.4. Compatible with Shimano 11 speed RD & Shimano GRX.

LaVita do not supply parts that are compatible with Tiagra 4700.

Shimano 11 speed Road

Shift ratio of ~1.4. Compatible with Shimano 10 speed GRX & Tiagra 4700 10 speed.

LaVita do not supply parts that are compatible with Shimano 11 speed road.

Shimano 11 speed MTB

LaVita do not supply parts that are compatible with Shimano 11 speed MTB.
